Truck Rental: 7 things to know before renting a truck

  • On July 24, 2020

Trucks are a major means for transporting goods around the world. In Bangladesh, currently trucks are operating across all routes. Starting from our daily necessities, everything we see around us, has been transported by a truck at one point or another.

Hence, many of us had to hire trucks at times, or might need to hire in future. Therefore, it is important for everyone to know about what they need to be aware of before hiring a truck, so that they don’t end up taking wrong steps because they are ignorant about it. Let’s learn about 7 such things:-

1. What type and size of truck or pickup is needed

You should know what type and size of truck or pickup you need – which depends on the quantity of your cargo. You might face the following problems if you do not know about this.

  • If you hire the wrong truck, you might have to search for another truck at the eleventh hour

  • While transporting sensitive goods, you need to hire a covered van in order to keep the goods safe from raindrops or similar anomalies. Hiring an open truck by mistake in such cases can be the reason for product damages afterward

  • Not hiring the appropriate type and size of truck depending on the quantity or size of goods might cause you to incur more cost

In order to avoid such situations, having prior knowledge of truck types necessary for various purposes is necessary.

2. Idea about Trip fare

Before transporting the goods, you must have an idea about the trip fare of the route for which you want to rent the truck. Truck fares are constantly changing depending on market conditions and demand. Hence, before confirming your trip fare, get a prior idea about the existing rate in the market.

3. Decide how you will hire your truck

Before hiring any truck, decide how you want to hire the truck. Right now, there are several ways to hire trucks in Bangladesh. According to current market practice – you can hire trucks and pickups from truck stands, transport agencies or any broker.  However, due to the emergence of technology, using “Truck lagbe” app to hire trucks has become immensely popular. If you want, you can hire your necessary trucks even while at home by using this app. Since all the trucks registered with this platform are verified, this app is safer than any other way.

4.  Be sure about the exact amount of goods to be transported

Usually business shippers are well aware of their exact needs when it comes to hiring a truck for transporting business goods. They don’t often face problems regarding this due to having years of experience.

However, someone hiring a truck for the first time, or shifting home, might face problems while estimating the amount and size of goods to be transported. Before shifting your home, confirm the amount of luggage and the length of heavy luggage in feet. If you don’t make a list of your goods and luggages properly – you may end up using the same truck to transport the goods twice, or even hire a new truck entirely.

5. Inform the truck owners/operators about loading and unloading points properly

Let the truck owners or operators know in advance where your goods will be loaded and unloaded. If you don’t provide a detailed address, Truck owners or drivers might ask for a higher fare if it’s a longer distance compared to the location that was mentioned initially. Hence, let them know in detail before hiring the trucks.

6. Be sure about how many or what kind of labour support you need:

Depending on the quantity and size of goods to be transported, make sure in advance whether labour support will be required for loading and unloading goods, and how many laborers will be needed. Also make sure, whether you will need an electrician or some other technician for the shifting. If you need help in this case, you can contact us directly on our facebook page or customer care number.

7. Communicating with the driver before the trip

Call the driver or truck owner before your trip date to give him a reminder. Specially, it’s important to call the driver 1 or 2 hours prior to the specified trip time to ensure his timely arrival.

Often, our experience of hiring a truck becomes unpleasant due to the lack of knowledge on the aforementioned topics. So in order to smoothly hire a truck or pickup and avoid any kind of hassle, it’s important to know about the necessary topics as mentioned above.
